Peter Sage explains how you can make gifts that actually help people in developing countries through the online AMURT-AMURTEL Gift Catalog.
We have published the 2011/2012 AMURT/AMURTEL gift catalog for the holiday season and beyond. This catalog provides you with a way to support others in our larger human family, while honoring a friend or loved one. For the online version please visit www.amurt.us
This year we have added new gifts from Haiti, Nigeria and Kenya. Here are a couple of examples:
After the earthquake in Haiti, AMURT & AMURTEL set up an Integrated Healing and Education Center at the SINEAS camp for internally displaced people. There we are training 280 women and youth leaders in urban gardening and providing them with the seeds and soil to maintain their own tiny gardens, some of them in old car tires, squeezed between the tents and the shacks. You can join this program by contributing $40 for an urban gardening kit.
Nigeria has the second highest maternal mortality rate in the world. AMURT is helping address this problem by providing maternal health services to rural communities in Ebonyi State. By training skilled birth attendants, sensitizing women and equipping clinics we have seen an increase in ante-natal attendance, clinical births and lives saved. Already in 2011 ten critical births ended favorably for mother and baby. If you would like to keep childbirth safe in Nigeria, you might consider donating $100 for a life size birth simulation model.
For these and other gifts, please take a look through the catalog. The gifts you buy will brighten up the lives of people who still need so much of what we take for granted.
Please share the online catalog with family members, colleagues and friends. If you would like printed catalogs, let me know by email.
Best wishes to all,
Peter Sage
